What does Li Hing Lemon Peel taste like?

It’s the combination of sweet and sour dried lemon peel with the savory and tangy Li Hing Mui powder. Add that to candy, and you have the perfect balance of sour, sweet, and salty!

Lets make it:

This recipe is super easy to follow and will leave you wanting more. My favorite candy to add to Li Hing lemon peel is Gushers! I love the extra sweetness when they burst in your mouth. Gummy bears are also very popular and probably the most common candy you’ll find in stores in Hawaii.

*The full ingredients and instructions will be at the bottom of the page*

Ingredient’s

  • Lemon Peel – I usually get the brand Jade when I got back home to Hawaii but I have also seen it online.
  • Li Hing Mui Powder – I also usually get this when I go back home too but there are so many different brands that have this! There are a lot online as well. Enjoy is a popular brand and Jade brand also carries one with no red dye.
  • Candy of your choice -It can probably work with most candies the ones that are the most common are: Gushers, Gummy Bears, Strawberry belts, Nerds clusters.
  • Lemon
  • Sugar

How To store it/how long will it keep

I usually store it in an air tight container at room temperature (try to keep it out of the heat). Depending on the candy I usually try to eat it within a week (nerds clusters don’t last too long)! Normally it doesn’t last that long but if left too long the candy will start melting and become a sticky mess.

This is definitely a favorite treat we enjoy in Hawaii. I love bringing it back to San Francisco and sharing it with friends because it’s always a hit and goes so quickly! The easiest way to ensure you always have some is to make it yourself. Then you can satisfy your cravings anytime! These treats also make great additions to goodie bags or party favors for anyone.
